My Dell Laptop reboots itself when Windows 2000 tries to load. It reboots when that black and white progress bar appears.

I have formatted the HDD and then when I am trying to reload the os it freezes up or reboots.

Any Ideas out there?

I wasn't doing anything different to the laptop before this happened.

Shut off the power and restart when the Windows installation freezes.
If the installation does not resume where it left off, then there's probably a hardware problem.

I believe it is a hardware problem. Any ideas on what?

It could be anything from the MB, CPU, RAM, or video adapter.
The RAM may be replaceable without doing major surgery.
However, the other items probably require disassembling the unit, which may not be adviseable or possible.
If the unit's not under warranty, then consider get some quotes on having it repaired.
If too costly, then you the only other option is buying a new one.

you may need to upgrade/update your bios.
i had the same problem with an hp laptop.
apparently i was to install the upgrade before the Win2K.
you might want to go to dell's web site for info on this, reformat hd, fix bios and try again.
