I have a compaq presario 700. with 112 mb ram wich is weired.

After a certain period of time I can't do anything. My screen freezes and everything is stucked. Ctrl alt del does not work anymore. I only can reset my laptop. and start over.

what can I do about it without formating my HD?

wich steps should I take?

You don't mention which operating system it is using, but my first step, since you seem to indicate that it fails after a specific amount of time would be to boot it up in safe mode and see if the problem remains. This should help decide if it is a hardware or software problem.

Do you have all patches installed from both the windows update and relevant drivers from the manufacturers web site

The reason why you have 112mb of ram is because the integrated graphics uses 16mb of the memory (112+16=128mb)
You may be able to change this value in the bios.
