Hi all,

I've got a Toshiba Tecra laptop that is aboput 3 yrs old. Today its built in keyboard has started acting funny.

When I tried to logon to windows it just stayed on the login screen, nothing was working. I've noticed that when I press the Alt key the light on the Caps button comes on.

After logging on using a borrowed keyboard I've noticed that the following keys are all causing the Caps button to light up and are not being input to the laptop.

Alt
[
]
q
page down
g

d
s

.

Also when holding down shift the alternative keys to [ and , are not working.

I've tried the function keys and the num lock is deff not on as I know this can cause keys to change their functions.

Anyone got any ideas????

Thanks graham

p.s.

When I type holding down one of the above keys the text DOES NOT become capitalised even though the caps light is on.

things that come in mind:

since the external keyboard works, I guess that the original may be shot or that the ribbon cable connecting the keyboard to the motherboard is loose/misaligned...

solution - check the ribbon cable for correct seating, or if the keyboard is bust, to buy a new one to replace the old...

Hmm, good ideas but its a work one so won't be opening it up as will get a slap on the wrist lol

I'll pass it onto services after the bank holiday weekend unless anyone has any other ideas??

Thanks

Graham
