Laptop CPU speed

I have a new 3.03Ghz laptop, but when I go into Control Panel and system, it says it is a 3.03Ghz CPU at 890Mhz and sometimes 1.2Ghz. I have looked at other P4 laptop processors that are 2.4Ghz running at 2.39Ghz. Is there a setting that can be changed, or could there be something wrong with the processor? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Does it have speedstep running? This lowers the processor speed to save power when running on batteries. Most laptops have something like this to extend the battery life...

Check again!! are u really using mobile processors??
Probably NOT.

Be careful of non mobile processors in laptops, they can get real hot and the next thing you know it they are dead...
