Hi, I know it says PC Hardware, but I tried looking for a laptop section and I thought this would be the correct forum.

I have a laptop, a Presario R3000. Within the last month I noticed that the battery has been going downhill. There is Windows XP Home Edition installed on it.

In the Power Meter, it used to say 79% as the highest level the battery would charge up to. I wouldn't go up to 100% like before. Then from 79%, 61% became the higest. And now, I can't even remove the power cable at all. The second, I remove the power cable, the laptop turns off right there and then. I have to make sure I don't accidentally kick the wire otherwise I will lose all my work.

Can anyone help?

I remember that from when i owned a laptop.
Far as i know there isnt anything you can do about it except get a new battery.
I take it you are out of the warranty period.
You could try ebay for a good deal, just be careful.

Thanks, garebo.

Does anyone have anymore to add? Any help would be appreciated.

How much is a new laptop battery.

Shop carefully for a new battery. Some places offer he original equipment for a good price. Some others offer substitutes that do not have the same quality. An expensive price does not mean better quality, it often means more intermediates.

You do want to wait, get some other ideas, im not mr laptop. However, i do know the best place is to find forums that deal with say laptops and go to their forum. If not that kind then go to one of the groups like techimo or anandtech and sign up there. They both have forums and places inside their forums where you can guy,,sell, or trade parts, laptops included, and parts for laptops and all pc's. You can sell all the parts you want and get the battery you want right there! I have done hundreds of deals in those forums and i can prove it!
As for how much, go to ebay, note the prices on ebay and these forums are about 40% or more less than ebay's prices!! Now this is good advice, lol. Its because I know these forums so well.
