Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario 1200T. It used to have Windows ME on it (yuuk) and I just put Windows 2000 on it. Now it seems as though the battery won't charge. It's behaviour is strange, chack this out:

Charging: 1%
then like 5 minutes later,
On AC Power
Then I unpllug the power and get the battery low and battery critical at the same time, plug the power back in, then
Charging: 1%
Then it stops charging, goes to AC power...

It's a vicious and annoying cycle. The laptop will be 2 years old in Feb. of next year. So I wouldn't suprise me if the battery is in fact just shot. Oh, look, now it's all the way up to 6%!
I have been digging around on the Internet for a new battery, and what I found is confusing as all get-out. The battery in here is a 9.6V, 3800mA, NiMH battery. I found that there is a 14.4V, 3700mA, LiIon battery that is supposed to go in these laptops, but it's almost twice the voltage!! What gives? Can these things recognise what they have and compensate? Or does it have a voltage multiplier for use with the 9.6V battery, and by passes it when the 14.4V battery is in? Iam pulling my hair out here, I am used to pretty standard behaviour with batteries, not this wierdness...is this the kind of thing that happens when a laptop battery goes bad?

Thanks for the help, my already thinning hair will appreciate me not pulling it out! Hope I was of some help...
