Lap top reformat and then install Retail Version - How? 1

Picture the scene:

I currently have my laptop Toshiba 8000 satellite and working 100%.
The operating system is XP Home and came with full installation. I also have 2 x CD’s. One of which is the recovery disc and the other the utensils disc.

I would like to install the RETAIL version of XP Pro and need to know if I reformat the laptop using a Win 98 floppy, and after the reformat is the procedure exactly the same as if the lap top was a brand new computer with a clean hard drive? - - In other words, do I install the retail version of XP pro and then use the original utensils CD for the likes of modem, sound, graphics etc.

You might ask me the reason for this. Well, I just prefer the retail version as opposed to an OEM and might as well go with Pro instead of home.

I did the same thing with my Inspiron. Dell, and any pc retailer for that matter, load up their PC's with so much CRAP from AOL to iTunes.

What I did is burned a CD with all the current drivers that my lappys hardware needs (modem, network, video, etc) and just stick in your retail version, reformat and install. When it boots up for the first time it will ask you to install drivers of all your components that werent in the windows CABs.

BHAX - - Thanks for your info. - - where did you aquire all your drivers from? - - Did you just burn them from the hard drive before re-formatting it or aquired from elsewhere? Treat me nice cos really just a novice with computers.

Go to

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp

and download the modem driver. Everything else XP should pick up automatically.
