Hope someone can help - I am trying to connect via a proxy server but the company has disabled this option and the entire section is greyed out (IE -> Tools -> Options -> Connections -> LAN. Anyone know what registry setting I can change to enable this?

hkey_user\<find your user number here>\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\internet settings\proxyserver

Many thanks Palagast - no luck though, that directory does not exist in the registry.........any other thoughts?

If the options are greyed out, your network administrator must have a group policy in effect. If this is the case, you will not be able to add the proxy settings you require.

It is also highly unlikely you will be able make changes to the registry to implement the change - in your case, the relevant registry keys are missing altogether.

Speak to your tech guys to see if they can help you out.

davedavedave,

Not the answer you want to hear and correct me if I'm wrong but you appear to be trying to circumvent something your employer doesn't want you to do.

I can't find a Tek-Tips site policy but I'm not sure anyone should be trying to help you.

This may or may not be a group policy but outonalimb's suggestion to 'Speak to your tech guys to see if they can help you out.' seems a good way forward, especially as your handle indicates you are in IS/IT Management..
