Hi Guys,
I am trying to figure out what i need to perform LAN free backups with CV.
The setup is really simple. 1 x file server with solaris connected by fibre to a P2000 G3 FC, 1 x windows 2008 Media agent and a fibre attached tape library.
All i am trying to do is backup the file server directly to the tape library in the fastest possible way.
I have been told i need gridstore. Is this correct?
I have also noticed on the books online i mentioned the file server also has to be the media agent for LAN free backups is this correct?
Thanks
Dougie

For a local (LAN-free) backup, you must promote the client to become a media agent.

You do not need gridstor for this purpose if you do not want to setup alternate data paths.

Thanks for the reply.
It seems like that is the case. I spoke to CV today and they mentioned this. My intention was to have a seperate server for the media agent but this would be mean only the aux copy would be over the fibre so i think at this point maybe making this the media agent is the easiest way.

Thanks
Dougie
