LAN connection from DSA to c-lan G3siV8 1

Hello all,
I am trying to connect and administer our Definity G3si V8 form my desktop. I am using Lucent DSA software, but the PBX does not give me a login prompt. I can ping the PBX ip address, but no login prompt. We have a c-lan to link CMS and Audix. I can Administer both CMS and Audix from DSA, but not the switch.

I have called Avaya, and they say I must upgrade to V9.

Can someone provide a solution. It will appreciate.

Avaya has given you correct info you will either need to upgrade or use a data mod to connect to the definity. I just upgraded to r9 and it makes things so much easier it is 100 times faster then using a data mod they only connect at 9600 baud. José

I would like to know how much they charged you to upgrade to R9. Im thinking about upgrading also. Didn't get a chance to call my rep yet so im very curious on how much it will cost to upgrade. Im still running R4 only.
 
unfortunatly ddue to the way our system was purchased I do not have an upgrade amount. Our system was sold to us as a r9 mid 2000 however due to the lack of statistics on the r9 as it was so new we had avaya install r8 until r9 had been tried by other customers and proven to be reliable. then in feb 0f this year avaya upgraded us as part of our original contract. Leaving me not knowing how much the actual upgrade was. Sorry José

You may have to first upgrade to R6 or 7 (or sthg) and then go to R9. Talk to Avaya on this. It seems to cost us around 5k to upgrade including tech time, hardware and code. If you have to do a double upgrade, it could be pricy. We've since gone to a maint. agreement that just gives us all upgrades whenever they become avail.

 

It is very difficult to provide acurate costs for code-version upgrades since Avaya bases its pricing on your current system, taking into consideration RTUs, customer options, ports etc.

We paid 33 k. USD for the upgrade of two G3Si PABXes; details follow -

(1) ECS; G3Si; DCS+; EAS; 1000 Ports; 4 cab - V. 6
(2) ECS; G3Si; DCS+; single cab - very small PBX - v. 4

Oh, we're a US company working out of the UK by the way. Prices in dollars since this is how we submit them for capital-expenditure approval.
 
I have the same problem as PowerSp,teh deference is my Definity is V9, i manage to ping the Definity IP but not able to telnet or login using DSA. The C-Lan can was able to support Intuity Audic and CMS, need some one help !!
 
Teh, Here is how to add


Change IP-Services:
Service type: SAT
Enabled: Y
Local Node: “Hit Help-F5” and select the ethernet node name.
Port: 5111 to 5117. Must align this number to DSA when setting up properties.
Remote node: any.


Remember that the port number you enter here will also need to be entered in on the setup of the DSA connection.

I can confirm 100% that version 9 is required, and if you're going for version 9, request v. 9.05 which is the currently available release here in the UK.

You'll also have the capability to pursue VAL announcement boards, the new-fangled TN750C equivalent. These store up to 1 hr. of announcemements in the PC world's .WAV format, and can be up/downloaded via IP. There are system parameter customer options that govern capacity (!) though.
Some things never change !

Back to R.9, the IP administration can be configured using cha ip-int and adding SAT (System Access Terminal). I suggest a high port number like 8197 for instance. This will need to be specified in DSA / ASA upon connection.

As Roche points out , you'll also need to look at cha node-names ip and cha ip-interfaces in order to setup the Control LAN board.

Oh yeah, and if you have EAS you'll get a free upgrade to EAS-PHD (>4 splits per agent) plus BSR (check skill 1 check skill 2 queue-to best!!) which is nice

As for the verion jumping, we've jsut taken an R.3 Si to R.9 without an interim jump ... but since DEFINITY is a black art, I would not be surprised if an interim was needed in some cases (Ask your channel partner, who hopefully Avaya has kept up to date(!))
 
Does anybody know how the "check best" command works?
