I have a sony vaio PCG-K35 and all it has is 512 of memory. 2 256 pieces. This really sucks and i wanted to upgrade. Does anyone know if i can have a 512 stick on one and a 256 on the other for a total of 768. Please let me know. Thanks

Shouldn't be any problem and wont hurt anything to try,....you must get the right memory though!

Ask Crucial.com about it to be sure!

Check their prices too, you may go with a gig!

NCOELHO,

It might also be worth checking with Sony's website to see if they recommend any particular type of memory or memory configuration.

Thank you all for your help. I have checked with sony and they gave me bad news. Off the website it states that i can use 2 256 1 512 or 2 512. But says nothing about 1 256 and a 512. This blows. It means i have to throw away 2 256 and buy 2 512. When i would have been happy with the 768 config.
But we will see what happens i ordered one 512 if it works with the 768 config i will update so if anyone else has the same type of issue.
Once again thank you for all your help.

Are you going to be doing anything on the laptop that justifies more than 512MB? I upgraded my desktop at work from 512 to 1 gig because I had some memory laying around and havent noticed any difference.

Sony support don't know their head from their arse. It often amazes me that an organisation that can make such great products puts morons onto the support side.

Your Sony Vaio model comes with either a single 512MB or 2 x 256MB modules installed (depending on the market place). Memory can be upgraded to 1GB using virtually any combination you like. So you can pull a 256MB and insert a 512MB. It is usually best to install the larger module in slot 0 (or slot 1 if they are marked 1 and 2 rather than 0 and 1).

The memory is bog standard PC133 SODIMMs, but I always recommend that you purchase warranted memory from Crucial or Kingston or other main manufacturer to guarantee compatibility.
