Dear All
I have a question regarding the Label of Tapes
When you Label a tape does Legato right something on the tape
such as the volume name/pool etc... The reason why i am asking that is because i don't know how Legato can recognize a tape without a barcode reader when you insert the tape for restoration for example
Sorry for this dummy question :)))

Each backup software must write a ceratin set of information onto the backup media due to several reasons:
- in a standalone device, the is usally no barcode reader
- barcodes MAY fall off

Of course NW does not behave any differently.

Thanks a lot for these explanations

Last question , what is the purpose of having a barcode reader though ?
Thanks

The purpose is to be able to run a very fast inventory of the jukebox media as long the barcode is known. If there is none, each media has to loaded and the label has to be read which will take ages in bigger jukeboxes.

However, when the media is loaded, the software must verify the written label.

Thanks for the answers 605
that makes sense :)
Cheers mate
