Hello,

Our kx-tvs50 voice mail processing system stopped working over the weekend. I was wondering how to program the system to recognize port 2 as the voice mail port while we wait for our new system. The old way a digital phone cable RJ14 was put in port 1 and then in our PBX KX-TD1232 at extension 3. The extension is fine at the PBX. Also, what is the beige object that surrounds the cable? It can be moved up and down the cable.

Thanks

only way to use port 2 only is as a dtmf integration, but it is problem more trouble than it is worth.
You will have to reconfigure the system and tvs

if the tvs is malfunctioning what makes you thing that going to inband is going to solve the issue why bother if you have on on the way!!
its a ferrite coil is supposed to stop RF interference

You're right, you guys. I'll just wait. Thank you all for the info.

Once I get my replacement, will it be just a plug and play or will I have to configure the new system. I've never worked with this system other than through programmator on the kx-td1232.

plug and play hardly !!think about your question you are going to take it out of the box and it is magically going to know where it is and is going to have your custom greetings all ready to go.....

Like I said, never touched this before. So I was trying to see what i was up against.

are you able to communicate at all with the hyperterminal with
the existing unit ?

are you using a gender changer on the td cable you have to
program the tvs?

The system came with Db9 serial port male and attached to that is a special jack with a db9 serial female on one end and an rj45 female on the other. The computer has the same jack that goes into the serial db9 male port in the computer. I have cat 5 connecting the 2. I did see that the dip switches have to be set to 1 for this to work and it wasn't. So this may be the issue.

I found the right jack and was able to get a connection through the rs 232 port! Now reseting and entering info will be much easier!

btw, the new voice mail system works great!
