I have an IBM T23 laptop and an IBM Desktop pc. I have them connected to a KVM switch. For some reason on the T23, the mouse stops working after I sign in. The track mouse starts working at that point. I know it is not the mouse or the KVM as I have replaced both. I have also plugged the mouse directly into the laptop and the mouse works fine then. I found on the web that the track point on the T series laptops does not like it when another mouse is connected to the laptop. I have tried disabling the track point and I still get the same results.

have you tried a USB KVM? might solve your issue as USB runs off different resources than PS2.
good luck

Thanks for the reply, but after further testing and dragging others into the problem, I found the problem. The following is a summary of what I did, not sure if the first steps are necessary, but they got the ball rolling.

1.) I went into the BIOS and changed the track point to disabled.
2.) Rebooted the PC and the mouse worked until the desktop loaded.
3.) Went back into BIOS and change track point back to auto-disable.
4.) Rebooted, the mouse still worked only until the desktop was loaded.
5.) Ran MSConfig and disabled tp4serv.exe, then rebooted.

After that, the mouse works fine. I’m not sure, but I may need to re-enable this program if I want to use the track point again, but since I hate the track point and carry a mouse with the laptop, I don’t think this will be an issue.
