is there any way to know your own extension number on analogue phones in avaya ipo..?

When they are installed they are labelled, or the sockets they connected to are labelled (on telephony cabling).... that's assuming a competent installation of course. Failing that call a display phone or see what port it's patched into or go off hook and watch SSA.....many ways :)

Tried calling your own cell phone?

Kind regards

Gunnar

Install VM Pro on your laptop and connect to the IP Office ( it runs for two hours without a license )
In VM Pro add a module "WhoAmI" connect a generic action to the start point and set "$CLI" as the voiceprompt filename.
In Manager add a shortcode *99\"WhoAmI"\Voicemail collect\0
Then on the unknown phone dial *99 and VM Pro will tell the extension number.

@amridle01 assuming we don't have any labels or any such or not using SSA..how would you know your own extension? Is there any short code that will voice prompt and would tell you your extension?something like that.. it's just you and your deskphone are the concerned...is there any way else..?

@gunnaro when i do that, only the pilot number will appear on my mobile not my whole extension number

Is this a hypothetical question, or do you actually have a problem finding your own extn?

If you don't have SSA, get it!

Intrigrant came up with a very nice solution for you, but that requires access to Manager.
(if you have Manager, you also have SSA)

Kind regards

@integrant this is the request of the technicians of the customers..sometime they use this kind of troubleshooting in some instances which is to know the extension of unknown analogue phone whithout using ssa on remote sites.. but you have a graye advice using vm pro..i'll try that when i get back on the customer..thank you very much..really appreciated it.

If the customer knows the IP Address of the IP Office they can access SSA through http:\\< IP Address IP Office> assuming they have network connection and a browser ( cannot imagine there is no Windows PC on site...)

If you can't connect SSA remotely, the VMPro function will not work remote either.
VMPro will only work for 2 hours without a license, so that's just an ad hoc solution.

I'd recommend putting a PC on the customers network that you can access remotely. Use LogMeIn or Teamviewer, it's free.

Install the IP office suite on this PC.

Kind regards

Gunnar

Not sure why their technicians find this such an issue, in all the years I've done this job and also non of the other engineers I've worked with have ever had an issue finding which extn is which, it's a minor inconvenience that's so easily overcome it's not even a consideration when you attend site or do remote programming :)

i don't know either.. =) they just told me that they need that kind of troubleshooting. but anyway, thanks a lot for the advices..

Making a module in VM Pro to speak the CLI has been useful to me on large installations with lots of single line phones. It would be nice if you coule also have it speak the extension id.

One joyous site was a large convalescent home, where they were always moving phones around, the phone system was in the basement, and I was the only person on a service call. Didn't have the luxury of someone in front of SSA to tell me what extension number I was currently using. Don't be so hard on those field techs!!

regardless of any immediate solution to this issue if the sockets on site are not labeled this needs to be addressed.

How do the Technicians identify a network port on site if the cabling has been installed this incompetently?

Maybe the sockets are just structured cabling and this would only tell you the patch panel location and then you would have to trace the cable in the cabinet to the IP Office.. ? maybe they have had office moves and hence not lablled in the new location ?

what if the user has voicemail and there is no personal greeting set ? just dial it and it will say "You have reaced the voicemail ofextension xxx"

correct & considering this is the customers own technicians it is how i would expect the to do it.
the chances are that when they need to know the extn number it is because it is faulty so the other suggestions are not going to be much use anyway.
