A couple of years ago I installed Backup Exec that came with the new DLTV4 tape drive. It was to backup a data server no exchange or anything like that.

We now have new servers and the roles have changed. One server (Server 2003 x32) handles all login printing and data, the other one (Server 2003 x64) runs Exchange 2007. Both servers are connected to Dell Powervault 114T. The ppowervault has once LTO3 and the DLTV4. Each tape drive is connected to a seperate server.

Since we had a license for the old version of BE it was going to get used to backup the x32 server using the LTO3. The x64 server was going to use the DLTV4 server with BE11d. We purchased a copy of BE11d with the exchange agent.

After reading some of the docs about it, do I need to use the DLTV4 drive at all. Can I use BE11d to backup both servers and Exchange using the agent or do I need to run both tape drives.

I'm just back after a weeks break so the brain is fogged up and learning new stuff is never good with a foggy brain.

Thanks

Robert

No, but you will have to remove the BE from the x32 server and install a remote agent. Then both servers can be backed up on the x64 11d server.

for the win server 2003, copy the RAWS32 folder to that server, run the setupaa.cmd to install, reboot.
