Would anyone know if there is a setting to automatically log users(or kill them) after a network connection failure? A timeout perhaps?

Hello,
If in the connection to the wan is thru modem, then there is settings in modem sttrings that will turn off the connection for the users.

There is a shell variable called TMOUT, which you can use to exit the shell if nothing has been typed for a while. If, i.e. you set TMOUT=600, then that would allow for 10 minutes of inactivity before exiting.

or TCP keepalives will bring tcp connections down after some time ( no -o tcp_keepintvl??? half seconds ), success with applications may vary

U can see also the tcp_keepidle wich is by default set to 14400 ( 1 unit 1/2 second)

to change it
no -o tcp_keepidle=newvalue

Thank you for your assistance. Your responses are appreciated.
