hi,

does anyone know of a way by which i can close/kill/terminate a session from the client machine without getting into the main teradata server.... i know that we can do it using PMON... but i would like to do without using Perfomance Monitor....

thanks a lot

You can use the Gateway utility if you have authority [root or sroot] to launch it. I run it from the PDN node usually, not the AWS. You have to learn how to navigate, it is not real intuitive, click on Lan, highlight Lan, highlight session, click on Kill button down below, something like that.

But that is 'getting into the database' also! Why wouldn't you want to get into the Db? From MVS if you cancel a batch job, the sessions will abort and end also, and if you kill an id on unix, I believe the sql operation will be killed also. It has no return path for the answer set.

I'm shooting from the hip here, relying on memory. Tell us more: why would you NOT want to use PMON or Gateway utility [launch by running this:
/tgtw/bin/xgtwglobal &

teradude

Wouldn't using the client's Windows Task Manager to kill the application drop the session?
