Hello ppl,

I've recently been approached by who are selling me exclusivity to key words and phrases that, when typed in the address bar of IE, take me directly to my site. So if I was a hat shop owner and I bought the rights to the keyphrase "hat shop", whenever anyone typed in "hat shop" they would be directed to my hat shop web site.

Alarm bells started ringing for a number of reasons (the first being that blue planet it cannot be found in the search engines), so I contacted Microsoft. Now maybe I spoke to the wrong department but they had not heard of such a service.

Am I being paranoid? Can anyone prove to me that this service exists? Are Blue Planet IT a valid company? If anyone out there can help me I would be really grateful as I don't want to get shafted!

Hi mate,

Not sure if this is any help but I checked out some details..

The address is valid but was not returned as a business address. This was using Royal Mail.

This made me curious so I tried to phone but no answer. Then again, it is 7pm so they might be closed.

Hope this helps, Wullie

Might wanna contact BBB (Better Business Bureau) if you are in the USA...they look into matters like this...and if it is fraudaulant then they will take actions... I have not failed; I merely found 100,000 different ways of not succeding...

They were charging around £400 per key phrase (details are on the web site). Wullie - you mentioned RealNames being in charge of keyphrases.........what do they do and can i buy a similar service off them? The Demon

if you use msn as a search tool and type say "disney" in the search box and hit enter. the first site that comes up is

Disney
This Internet Keyword goes directly to the Disney site.
Internet Keyword:Disney

where "Disney" is linked

when you click on this link on the link it takes you to the site that registered the keyword disney with Realnames.

I haven't yet seen any other serach engine/directory service use this except msn. so i guess its a waste of money to do this for 1 search engine that too one that isn't such a regularly used one

but here's the link in any case

oh yes another thing is that if i just type "disney" in my browser address bar, it will take me to that site. this means that on my visiting card instead of printing i can just print disney.

Anyway buy this sirectly from real names and its available for $ 49 for basic package and the site mentioned by THe Deamon, who seem to be a registrar of realnames sells it for 200 pounds (too high) Ranjan

Hi mate,

What this looks like is that they are going to charge you, then they are going to get the keywords from realnames for you.

I tried a minute ago and the price was $49.00 for a basic keyword..

Quite a bit of commission for a few minutes work..

Ranjan,

I personally would have to disagree with your comments. The IE default serach is MSN. IE is shipped as a package with windows so there will be a lot more users than you think. Remeber, this works if you type the address in your browser so it is not just in the actual search..

But, if you are going to do it then go to realnames or some other well known company.

Hope this helps Wullie

Just had a long chat with Blue Planet who have explained that BASIC keywords will only direct a person to your site via the address bar. The keyword PLUS option, however, will put you at the top of the search in any Microsoft search engine. The Demon

nyce wun, wullie. i think between us we've managed to crack this keyword malarkey, with the biggest problem being this is relatively new technology (at least in IE) and it's up to people like us to take a leap of faith and go for it. But only with the right supplier who doesn't charge £200 per key word! The Demon

hi wullie you are right.

msn 36.3% (uses realnames)
Yahoo 33.3%
google 24.5%
AOL 22.2% (AOL have their own keyword thing going)
Ask Jeeves 15.9%
Look smart 9.6% (backbone of msn) Ranjan

percentage of people using a given engine. does not add up to 100 cuz people use multiple engines for a single search Ranjan

That company looks even more dodgy now!!

They have a totally different address...

It may be possible that both of them have used a service to create the site but it looks more as though Blueplanet have copied the whole layout..

The reason I say that Blueplanet copied it and not the other way round is because the domainia has the full colour images down the bottom and blueplanet have more faded images.

Would be worth a shot to send mail to domainia and ask them if they know..

Personally, I wouldn't go near them..

Hope this helps Wullie
