I just noticed in the MICS 6.1 Installation PDF (p480)
that there is a warning from Nortel that if the system is powered down for more than 72 hours that you will have to obtain new keycodes..and this is also in the rest of the installer guides dating back to 4.0.

Has any one had the misfortune to find out if this is true, and can you enter in the set you put in at installation?

If true... if a system goes down on a long weekend or over a hoiday period, and no one knows that the system has no power... there will be hell to pay upon the customers return to find out that their PRI / MCDN codes are not working.

Also does this affect VM, ACD ...etc... keycodes also?
Also does the system ID change... so that you can not upload a sys. back-up.

I only noticed this when someone put a printed copy of the page in with my keycode orders, not realizing that instructions come in the package with the auth.#

thanks

I keep a copy of the keycodes in my file for the customer, I give the customer a copy of all keycodes for their files and I also take a sharpie and write all the keycodes on the inside of the door for the voicemail/callpilot. the keycodes are still valid as long as you don't change out the voicemail itself. the keycodes are kept on a computer by nortel and you can recover the keycodes thru your vendor or itas. (I had to do this once when I changed out a voicemail entirely)

also FYI when the system is newer and the battery is new the system will keep itself programmed for a quite a while. (I kept one vm for a week before I got it hooked up again) I was told that as the systems get older then the baggery gets weaker and that 72 hours applies more.

We purchase a good bit of refurb systems and I've seen some that held their programming for several months. In addition to what Jerry suggested, I'd also stress that you keep your database backed up with NRU.

As Jerry said the systems will retain programming for extended periods of time. I use systems several years old and they retain programming for months between uses. I use the systems for training. I have never had a training system lose programming between uses. However when a system decides it will not hold programming there is little warning.

Keycodes are derived from the system ID. The system ID should not change, BUT. If the system is downgraded to a previous software load (forces a coldstart) the system ID does change and the keycodes are lost.

SysID changes under the following conditions:

When you change a system cabibet (KSU)
When you downgrade the software

Now, (Feb2004), nortel gives a new keycode to change your sysID back to the original one - but you still need to have the old keycode infrmation safe as suggested by jerryreeve, exsmogger, rconn.

hte bigger the system is/ make more sure that you have all the backup you can get

Hi all,
We have MICS 4.1 and NAM 4.0 with ACD, I looked everywhere and couldn’t find any key codes for our system, and the company that installed our system is out of business, is there a way to know the key codes?
any input will be appreciated.

Thanks guys,
I also keep a record and the original copies of all:
1-Keycodes
2-Authorization Numbers
3-System ID's
4-dates of keycode retreaval and activation
5-Upgrades and general system history
for all my systems.

But I would really be intrested in senk1s "keycode for returning to the original sys.id", how new is this?
Because I upgraded a system from a 6.0 to a 6.0xc and the system ID changed and I lost the keycodes for the PRI and MCDN...but the programming stayed; and Nortel said that I had to purchase new Keycodes because there was no way of retrieving the sys.id, and you do what you have to do when its the master switch for a 4 system network with Centralized VM...on a thursday night.

nortechie,

it was about 10 days back(approx feb 10, 04)opend a case with nortel for regenerating keycodes ...thats what they gave this keycode.

of course you need to give them the new sysid/ old system id
this was on a MICS 6.1 software

Thanks, thats great news, I just hoped that they had it sooner. do they charge $$$ and how much?

we have a reseller contract ... so its included in the contract for us.
but if someone calls just like that (i'm not sure) but its about 250$ to 300$
