I work in a network with many Window 2000 systems. Many of the users complain that the keyboard stops responding and the only way to bring it back is to reboot. I have experienced this problem myself but I can find no cause or even a common factor to point at. Has anyone else had this problem, if so how did you fix it? All the computers are Dell's and all the keyboards are PS2.

but the mouse still works ? or maybe is the whole system freezing ?

Are you using Dell's internet keyboards and their software? If so, try uninstalling the keyboard software and use the standard 101/102 keyboard.

The mouse still works when the keyboard stops, the system is still responsive but you can not use the keyboard. I am using the standerd 101/102 keyboard driver, but I am not using the Dell internet keyboard.

When the keyboard stops, and the mouse continues, can you change the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK states? (That is, can you press those keys and the led goes on and off?) Can you press CTRL+ALT+DEL and get the expected response? Using the mouse, bring up the system device properties for the keyboard. Does the system think it's working okay? What happens if you unplug the keyboard and plug it back in (at the PC's PS/2 port)? Try a different keyboard and see the if the problem remains.

ALT+CTRL+DEL does not work the numlock and capslock keys do not respond and device maneger thinks it is working. I have not tried removing it and reinstalling it before I reboot. I have unpluged it and pluged the same keyboard back in I have also tried diffrent keyboards to no avail. It only happens once in a great while so it makes it a little hard to troubleshoot. When it happpens I am usualy working on something that needs to be done right then so I do not have the time to troubleshoot the problem right then. The problem isn't that big of deal, I was just wondering if it was just happening here or if it was happening to others with diffrent systems.
