Dear Experts,

Is there any file or script that can help me to solve the following issue?

My keyboard is operational at the ok prompt, but as soon as the station boots up the keyboard becomes inactive, one cannot type a single thing.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Sanity check your /etc/inittab perhaps? Maybe compare it to another working system?

Annihilannic.

Annihilannic,

When I do a more on /etc/inittab I get the following:

more /etc/inittab
ap::sysinit:/sbin/autopush -f /etc/iu.ap
ap::sysinit:/sbin/soconfig -f /etc/sock2path
fs::sysinit:/sbin/rcS sysinit >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
is:3:initdefault:
p3:s1234:powerfail:/usr/sbin/shutdown -y -i5 -g0 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog
sS:s:wait:/sbin/rcS >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
s0:0:wait:/sbin/rc0 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
s1:1:respawn:/sbin/rc1 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
s2:23:wait:/sbin/rc2 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
s3:3:wait:/sbin/rc3 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
s5:5:wait:/sbin/rc5 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
s6:6:wait:/sbin/rc6 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
fw:0:wait:/sbin/uadmin 2 0 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
of:5:wait:/sbin/uadmin 2 6 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
rb:6:wait:/sbin/uadmin 2 1 >/dev/msglog 2<>/dev/msglog </dev/console
sc:234:respawn:/usr/lib/saf/sac -t 300
co:234:respawn:/usr/lib/saf/ttymon -g -h -p "`uname -n` console login: " -T sun -d /dev/console -l console -m ldterm,ttcompat

What does it mean?
How can I solve it?
What is the origin?

Rgds,

inittab looks fine to me, try perhaps ps -ef | grep [t]tymon. Does it look something like this?

[tt] root 420 1 0 May 31 console 0:00 /usr/lib/saf/ttymon -g -h -p hostname console login: -T sun -d /dev/console -l
root 430 419 0 May 31 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/saf/ttymon[/tt]

Also, what is the output of sacadm -l. It should list all of the console devices upon which your system is waiting for logins.

Annihilannic.

Is this a Sun keyboard direct connect?

Have you tried another keyboard?

What type of system are you on?

Have you tried booting single user to see if keyboard works at that level?

You may have done this but I need to know so I can go in a certain direction.

Thanks

CA

Annihilannic, it looks like the following:

ps -ef|grep ttymon
root 453 1 0 16:06:34 pts/1 0:00 /usr/lib/saf/ttymon -g -h -p vut console login: -T sun -d /dev/console -l c
root 455 452 0 16:06:34 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/saf/ttymon

# sacadm -l
PMTAG PMTYPE FLGS RCNT STATUS COMMAND
zsmon ttymon - 0 ENABLED /usr/lib/saf/ttymon #

CA:

1.The keyboard is properly connected
2.I have swaped the keyboard
3.I am on Solaris 8
4.The keyboard works properly on single user mode level

Thankx,
vut

Well one suggestion is to boot single user remove .dt and reboot -- -r. This has cleared issues with CDE logins before.

In non usb systems I have seen the mouse kill keyboard usage, have you tried another mouse. I know this sounds crazy but I have seen it more than once in my 11 years of Sun systems.

Thanks

CA

cndcadams,

I have done what you have recomended, but unfortunately nothing works, any other ideas?

The mouse is not able to click anything in the CDE e.g: help, start over, etc.

Rgds,

I was wondering if you have come up with an answer for your problem yet.

I am still trying to find stuff when not busy.

I was wondering what printenv shows for your input-device?

It should show keyboard, and probably does. I am just trying to cover all bases.

thanks

CA

Dear cndcadams,

It shows the keyboard when the printenv command is issued.
What can be the problem?

Thank you in advance for your (and others) help.

Kind regards,
vut
