Hi,

I just installed windows 2000 professional as a dual boot with windows 98. I installed it in D drive (logical), with windows 98 in C.
If I just plug the keyboard, everythings seems alright. However, when I plug the mouse nothing is working (both keyboard and mouse). I tried 3 different mouses (2 Logitech using driver ver 9.0 --> W2K compliants, and 1 Microsoft mouse).

Anyone have any idea ?
My computer is DELL Dimensions XPS T500 Pentium III 256 RAM

thanks,
Sticko

Sticko -

I recently purchased a new DELL Optiplex, and when it came to the mouse, I had only one choice (MicroSoft IntelliPoint v3.1) Logitech/regular mouse wasn't even an option - at least from DELL anyway.

There are a quite a few mice listed on the HCL for Win2K, but there are also a lot NOT supported. I would double check to see if the ones you've been trying are listed and/or supported.

<A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> this helps ~

Actually I went to logitech web sites, and it says my mouse is fully suported in windows 2000. In addition to that I've downloaded the latest mouseware.

The reason that I believe that it's supposed to work is couple months ago, with the same computer, I installed a same verison of Windows 2000, and it works just fine (not the clean install though).

thanks

Are we talking USB or PS/2 mouse/keyboard?

If it is PS/2, you shouldn't need any additional software to get the mouse to work in a standard fashion.

If it works in your dual boot Win98, we should assume all hardware is Ok.

Doug
dxd_2000@yahoo.com

It's PS/2 mouse.
Yes you were right. But it hang when I plug the mouse in.

Any idea ?

Did both devices work when you were installing W2K? If so, what software did you install after the OS?

Are you using a standard Dell keyboard? Did you previously install MS Intellipoint software. I know that in previous versions of Intellipoint software it replaced the keyboard and mouse driver. This could cause problems when used on OEM specific keyboards with OEM specific functions.

Can you boot into Safe mode and get them to work? At what point does it hang...at the logon screen??

Doug
dxd_2000@yahoo.com

Yes I used standard Dell, and I used Logitech Mouseman wheel most of the time ( I still keep changing to know whether it's just happen only to certain brand or not)

No, Safe mode won't work either.
Here's how, everytime the windows 2000 logo first come out,
the mouse have to be plugged out (only have keyboard).
Then at any points in the future, if I plug the mouse back
it will give both of my mouse & keyboard not responding.

Isn't this weird ? However, I always believe that there is a solution in computer problem.

One more thing, Does anyone know how to uninstall Windows 2000 completely, so I only use windows 98 (I have dual boot right now)

thanks
Dumb question, but do you have the mouse and keyboard plugged into the right ports?
Al
atc-computing@home.com
