Key or PBX ? I have set up ip office systems using the default call appearance type configuration.
A customer wants the system set up with button line keys. FAQ states to never set up ip office like
a key system. Is there a pitfall to a key type set up?
4 Pots lines 25 9508 sets.

The IP Office is not a key system and so you shouldnt try and make it one. It is a PBX, so educate the customer on how they should be using the system.

Yes, ideally you'd want to run in Basic mode. Which really isn't ideal at all.

If they want a key system, let someone else sell them a Panasonic.
If you sell them an IPO you'll have a customer who always complains and they'll have a system they don't like, lose lose :)

The system allows for line keys with ring assign. Removing extensions from ring group stops the call buttons from ringing. Line keys allert on calls. I can still use 9 for out going. I can still set up attendant delayed answering. What is the customer complaints?

Follow the Advise in the FAQ

Do NOT configure an IP Office as a key system if you like your customers

They will soon not only get used to the chabges but actualy prefer them

Phone rings, it is a call for YOU - Pick it up (phone willnot ring for calls you should not be answering)

Need to make a call - Dial the number , the system will chouse an apropriate line for you so no need to thing abut which line to use.

Key system operation is only requeted by customers who have had a primitive system that could not handle their calls efficently.
often when a custoer requests somthing becasue "Thats the way my current system does it" they have forgoten all the things they wanted it to do but it couldn't handle (Invariably PABX type functionality)!

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Ipquru is see your point.

Only Phone rings, it is a call for YOU - Pick it up (phone will not ring for calls you should not be answering)
Only three of 25 sets would ring on incoming calls.

Need to make a call - Dial the number , the system will chose an appropriate line for you so no need to thing abut which line to use.
If they dial nine from the call appearance (witch is the default line preference) the system will choose for them.

To me if you have to set up call park 1 ,2, 3, ... It makes little difference in functionality to the user. Unless we are on
PRI or we are working with more than 4 pots lines.

What do you mean by: If they dial nine from the call appearance

Just dial nine, and the number. No need to press call appearance first. The phone will do that for you.

And why setting up call park?
You can transfer a call to a colleague using the 'transfer' button.

@Okkie26 : in the US the use of telecom systems is historically completely different as in the civilised world. Don't try to understand that, it wil drive you nuts.

Merry Christmas you all
