I have inherited an old database that has >11,000 tables named "Ex*.dbf". I need to change the value in one field named "Ex_Volume" to a constant value, the letter "D". This is a character field allowing 21 characters. The field presently contains a vast array of numbers, letters or both. How can I replace the current values with the constant without manually opening each table. There is also a table "Patients.dbf" that has a alphanumeric entry in the first field corresponding to the "*" in the Ex files. All files have an associated .MDX file. I've never used dBase just MSAcess. There doesn't seem to be a key field!?. In fact it seems the Ex*.dbf table names ARE the key fields?? I am a brand new user having just bought dBase 7.5 I also found a copy of dBase 5.5. Thank you.

I have just come across your posting in January. There is a relatively simple answer to your problem - but it may be a rather lengthy explanation. Do you still have this problem or have you solved it already or abandoned it ? I dont want to waste your time or take up a lot of space for no good reason.
