Kernel32 errors

I am running Access 2000 on my home computer and when I try to save a query, A window pops up stating that Access has caused some form of violation and will be closed immediately (more than a little annoying!) so when I get to save point, it conks out and I have to reinput all the work over again.

Problem is, it happens again at the same point. Sometimes just when I am running a query...

Okay. Does it happen on any other DB or just this one? If just this one, have you repaired and compacted? (If you haven't, make a copy of it first, and then repair/compact it.)

If you get errors, start with another copy of the DB. Create a new blank DB and hit File-Import, from an external file and import all of the objects from your DB into this new one (structure AND data option). Try doing whatever you want on this new DB, see if you still get errors.

If it happens with any DB, then I'm not sure what to tell you but to completely uninstall Office, then use Eraser 2000 (

and reinstall Office.

I have done as instructed. Please see the below text as an explanation of what I am doing. I hope you know what I a blabbering on about with the queries....

I am running windows 98 se, access 2000

on my database

one query brings up all the customers from a table 'customer details' and lists them i.e.
company_name
town
postcode
customer_type (choice of 4 types)

this is displayed as 'testcustomerdetails' subform which sits on the 'testsample' unbound form.

the query for the customer details has an extra column that extracts the first part of the customers postcode, not including the "space", i.e. HX3 6ET would become 'HX3' and displays that too.

this is done via the following
Company Name
Town
Postcode
Customer_type
Post Area: Left([Postcode],InStr([Postcode]," &quot-1)

**I have the thought that my second query doesn't like that extracted postcode bit and starts flapping...**

I am then running a second query 'rep_against_area' that looks at the 'testcustomerdetails' form where all this info is displayed and calculates who the area representative should be based on the 'post area' extracted bit.

the 'rep_against_area' query looks like the following:

the above info is derived from the below table:

only problem is, when I try to save the query, it gives me a bloody error message and shuts down!

any comments? (making it easier would be a start!)

Save the &quot;real&quot; query to another name each time you do the following:

Delete a column (preferably the calc'd ones first), run the query. Keep doing this until you DON'T get the error.

You can also try running repair on Access by hitting Help-Repair...
