just built new machine couple weeks ago been fine up till now, but now shuts down. msi mother-board via chip set, duron chip with correct heatsink and compound, when it shuts down the only way to get it to re-boot is to pull out
power connection on mother-board plug back in and it will work, sometimes for hours sometimes only for minutes, when
it does re-boot it goes into scandisk which suggests its
a power failure. The mother-board has these l.e.d.s at the back and all are green which , according to book, suggests
all is well with the mother-board, anyone got any ideas,
i think its the power supply, but before i rush out and get another id like to hear some of your views.

Hello Ed,

I would do the same thing and change the power supply, but first change the power supply cord just to make sure its not defective. I would also check the surge protection that you are using to make sure your not getting spikes.

Hope that helps a little

Hi Ed,
Before spending money do these few things, a process of elimination;-

Is your P/S new or old? (wattage?)

I find I sometimes have to twist active & negative terminals in the 3 pin socket to make the cable a tighter fit and stop arcing

Disconnect all non-essential peripherals....sound card, cd, modem, floppy etc. (could be elctrical prob with these)

If still shutting down put a multimeter on M/B connectors while PC is running and loaded up. Voltages should be on ATX P/S.... minimum 11.8, 4.8, 3.3 plus or minus and not fluctuating more than 0.01v

If still playing up and having checked cables and connections, buy a new P/S at least 300watt.

Hope this helps :)
