Hi I have 2 Exchnage server 5.5 with sp3 installed. The other server is installed with IMC. The other server is full with our user mailbox. I noticed that we keep getting this error 9318.

An RPC communications error occurred. Unable to bind over RPC. Locality Table (LTAB) index: 5, NT/MTA error code: 1753. Comms error 1753, Bind error 0, Remote Server Name XMAILSERVER [MAIN BASE 1 500 %10] (14)

can anyone explain to me?

thanks
uji

forgot to add that I install this 2 exchnage within a site.

Cut and paste from technet hopefully this may help.

SYMPTOMS
After you install Exchange 2000 in an Exchange Server 5.5 site, mail may not flow between Exchange 2000 and any Exchange Server 5.5 computer in the site. Mail also may not flow in the opposite direction. You can see the messages in the X.400 (message transfer agent [MTA]) queue for the destination servers on the Exchange 2000 server, as well as in the MTA queue on the Exchange Server 5.5 computer. Mail is eventually returned with a non-delivery report (NDR) because of a time out. The following RPC event ID error messages may be logged in the Application event log on both servers:

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeMTA
Event Category: Interface
Event ID: 9318
Date: 3/16/2000
Time: 10:03:52 AM
User: N/A Computer: WSILVERPT01
Description:
An RPC communications error occurred. Unable to bind over RPC. Locality Table (LTAB) index: 4, NT/MTA error code: 5. Comms error 5, Bind error 0, Remote Server Name SHELBYOZ01 [MAIN BASE 1 500 %10] (14)

Event Type: Warning
Event Source: MSExchangeMTA
Event Category: Interface
Event ID: 9322
Date: 3/16/2000
Time: 7:42:40 AM
User: N/A
Computer: WSILVERPT01
Description:
An interface error has occurred. An MtaBindBack over RPC has failed. Locality Table (LTAB) index: 13, NT/MTA error code: 5. Comms error 5, Bind error 0, Remote Server Name ShelbyOZ01, Protocol String ncacn_ip_tcp:16.37.164.181[4749] [BASE IL INCOMING RPC 23 507] (14)

CAUSE
This issue can occur if there is a problem with the Exchange Server 5.5 service account or password that was specified when the Exchange 2000 server was installed in the Exchange Server 5.5 site.

The significant portion of the event ID error messages is the Microsoft Windows NT and MTA error code 5. A Windows NT error code of 5 signifies that there is a security problem between the two servers.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, verify the account that is being used, and then enter the password again. To enter the password again:

Start Exchange System Manager; click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Exchange, and then click System Manager.

Locate the Administrative group that the Exchange 2000 server was installed in.

Right-click the Administrative group, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu.

On the General tab, click Modify.

Type the password.
