I am struggling to figure out a way to avoid using subreports. I have a revenue by category report I am building. 1st by Category, then by product w/in the category, then by the specific accounts for the product. I need to be able to click into the group 2 and drill into the products and have a new header and specific details only to that group. I want the details to pop up w/ that 3rd group, not have to drill down again. Is there a way to say that the details should populate only for Group 3? I'm still a little new to Crystal Reports. We use CR XI. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Instead of hiding the details you could use section suppression on the details->x+2:

drilldowngrouplevel < 2

Ok I was hooked on another project and am just getting back to this report. I'm new to crystal reports and don't really understand how do to some things. Can you explain how this drilldowngrouplevel thing works? Or point me to a good forum that explains how to use section suppression?

Go to report->section expert->details->suppress->x+2 and enter the formula:

drilldowngrouplevel < 2

If you have the details section formatted in the section expert to "hide", remove that checkmark.

The drilldowngrouplevel formula just says to suppress the details when in the main report view (drilldowngrouplevel = 0) or in the first drilldown (drilldowngrouplevel = 1).

Ok that worked! thank you. On this same theory. any suggestions on the same report. I've got drill downs and when i drill down into this 3rd group, I don't want all the info from the previous group, really only the description and not all the monetary info.
Basically it goes(if you don't see it I've got it suppressed)

header
group 2 header (w/ header for group 3)
group 3 header (w/ group 3 info)
group 2 footer (w/ group 2 info and same headings as group 1)
group 1 footer (w/ birds eye view info)
report footer

Only the group 1 footer and report footer are viewable right away.

in group 2 footer, it has description info and monetary sums. But when I drill into group 3 it's giving info that doesn't match up to the same headers as group 2. (hence why i needed mr headers to open populate w/ that group) but how do I make it so that only the description would populate in the last group and not all the sums? Is that possible?
it's a revenue by category. So it's category into products into people that bought the specific product. It's a mess. Love financial reports!!:)

Select the fields you don't want to appear at that drilldowngrouplevel, and then go to format field->common tab->suppress and enter the formula there:

drilldowngrouplevel = 2 //or whatever level it is.

Ok you are the most helpful person ever. How about this last question (which is probably a lie - but I hope it's the last question)

Can you make a formula to bold something only on a drill down? I only want the description to be bold when I've drilled into it. Is this possible?

Nevermind... i figured out how to take your drill down thingy and make a little conditional formatting on the bold! ya!! One report down... but I'll be back because I have 5 more reports to go!! (at least that's what I have scheduled!!)
