Hi

I need to keep an application on the drive after reformatting the drive. Is there a method of writing it to BIOS or even a disk area outside normal Windows area. The problem is mainly with NTFS. NO, I do not want to write a virus!!

Thanks

I cannot think of how this could be done. Even if you did find a way to move the application to an area of the disk that would not be affected by the format, I am assuming you would be re-installing an OS. The application would need to be reinstalled in the new OS for it to work properly, unless it is an old app that contained all the neccesary files in its own folders and it does not need any registry entries.

where there is a thought there is a way:

I assume you have only one hd with one Partition in your pc:
1: get a copy (legal of course :) ) of partition Magic 7.x,
2: split you partition c into two
3: Save the programms on the new partition
4: remember to save the Regestry Information too ;)
5: Now you can do what ever you want to your win partition even formating it without losing the data

666Cartman,
Forgive me, maybe I dont understand but "save programs on the new partition"?
Exactly how is that done? You would need to find every file (Exe's, DLL's ect) installed by the program which can be just about anywhere.

You would then need to find every registry entry for the program unless you plan to backup the entire registry and then.

This maybe not be impossible but definately would not be easy. Maybe since you are a programmer you may know more about this than I.

Partiton Magic has the resources to partition any drive and move the software programs to another part of the partition. The system files are updated at that time as well as the registry so that the software will still work. Hope that helps....
