Hi All,

Here it goes.... A friend of mine bought a K7S5A Pro mobo,AMD CPU, Power supply and a new HDD because the power supply on his pc blowout along with most of his peripherals. I installed win2k on the new components and it worked. I then shut down the pc and added his sound card from the previous pc(even though the mobo had an intergrated sound card). As soon as I turned the pc on the sytem froze. Now, when I turn the computer on I get 8 beeps which means an error with the video card as per the manufacturer. I've tried everything, switching the video card and memory, changing the battery, resetting the bios and I still get the 8 beeps. The HDD, CDRom, and Floppy are not currently connected. Im ready to give up. Are there any last suggestions out there? I would really appreciate them.

thanks,
nel

Did you disable on-board sound before installing the new sound card?

Cheers

Thx for all comments and advice given ;)

no... i did not disable. im sure that might have triggered something to go wrong. at this point i rather go with the onboard sound. however, when i start the computer up i get 8 continous beeps and a blank screen. ive changed the video card as per the manufac website but to no avail. Is there something else I can try?

Thanks for your help!

nel

Not to jump to conclusions but I'd say you pooched your motherboard! Since it's new you may be able to get a replacement.

Otherwise go to the manufacturer's site and see if they can offer any advice.

Cheers
