JWP1 not working

Hello

I have a dekstop with motherboard MS-7185. The problem is that in the beggining it wouldnt power on.I removed cards and usb audio jumbers but still nothing. Everytime I switched on and off from power button.
Then when I unplug power cable from JPW1 I switch it on ,not from power button but from PSU switch.Then pc boot ups ,with stil blank screeen however.

When I plugged again JPW 1 cable,and switch on from PSU nothing happens. later I noticed that there was a fun on right cover which I removed it to have access to pc.I plugged the fun, switched on from psu button, JPW 1 plugged and then pc boots!

Now I have the same situation; no power when JPW1 is plugged.

Any ideas will be most appreciated.


Video cards NVIDIA N1996 two of them
3.4 GB RAM
3 SATA disks
PSU 400W (working for sure)
JPW1 is the four pin cable from PSU( Is it really necessary to have it plugged I wonder)

maybe, but an untested assumption, more than likely it's probably underpowered!

NVIDIA N1996

no such animal exists... you will find the N1996 markings on lots of PCB's, not just on the nVidia cards...

How can be psu underpowered?

Ben means that the 400w power supply is most likely not supplying enough amps on the 12v rail to run the 2 video cards and the rest of the system.
For a low end video card in SLI like EVGA 9500gt this is what is recommended:

Minimum of a 350 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 18 Amps.)
Minimum 400 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 22 Amps.)

For mid-range cards like:EVGA GTX 465 Minimum of a 550 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 38 Amps.)

This is for 1 card, not 2 in SLI...That is why Ben said the power supply is most likely underpowered.

thanks RC, that is exactly what I meant, rereading what I wrote can lead to confusion...

so, to clarify, the PSU may not deliver enough Wattage and Amperage to supply the system...

Pana, please supply the missing information:

1. CPU
2. video cards, and are they in a SLI config?


the following is from the mainboard manual:

MSI Reminds You...

1. Maker sure that all three connectors are connected to a
ATX power supplies to ensure stable operation of the mainboard.

2. Power supply of 450watts (and above) is highly recommended for system stability.

3. ATX 12V power connection should be greater than 20A.

There was an upgrade on pc( probably video cards) and then power issues came up.
