I installed windows 2000 advanced server and it all seemed to be working just fine. (Exept) In our network workstations connect to one another to share printers. Since the installation of windows 2000 advanced server they can no longer connect up.

This is the error message i get.
(There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request)

Also we are running windows 2000 pro on our work stations.

Can someone help me out with this problem?

Thanks

From your verbage it sounds like to have a couple workstations that communicate just fine.

Then you installed another computer (Windows 2000 Adv Server), and after putting that on the network, the workstations now cannot talk to eachother?

So if you unplugged the Windows 2000 Adv Server, the workstations can then talk to eachother?

That really doesnt sound right, so can you confirm what you are saying?

If you are saying the new windows 2000 adv server cannot communication with other workstations and vice versa, that makes more sense. I would say make sure its in the same workgroup as the workstations.

also make sure every computer is on the same subnet.

Do you have any other servers on your network? It sounds like you don't have a domain controller defined. If there are no other servers on your network, did you run dcpromo and get AD all set up? If not, definitely check it out.

If you have AD set up, then you just may have a DNS problem. Give some more information on the problem. Do an ipconfig /all and post the results from one of your workstations.

Let me explain a little clearer. We were running a windows nt 4.0 server. I took that server out of the network and put in a new server and installed windows 2000 advanced server. I set it up as the domain controler and set up all the user accounts. That is pretty much all that has been done as far as setup on it.

Result from ipconfig /all

Physical Address 00-06-5b-16-ec-25
DHCP Enabled No
Ip Address 192.168.1.27
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Defalt Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS Servers 200.150.101.4
199.170.121.15
Primary WIns Server 200.150.101.1

Ah, the old upgrade by domain destruction technique.

DNS needs to point to your new server. If all clients are 2000 now you no longer need WINS.

That's not exactly the case. You shouldn't technically need WINS, but if you have older applications that utilize WINS then you will have problems.

How do i go about removing wins from my workstations?
