just hooked up wirless with security questions

this is at my home and I was told as long as I have a modem along with a router I should not have to worry about security issues. I haven't followed security steps in manual because of this. Am I OK if I have a modem with the router?

I guess thats your ISP modem? Anyway, I have never heard of that story and you should definately follow the security steps. Is the router wireless or do you have an additional access point attached to your router?

yes it's the isp's modem and the router is wireless

The NAT firewall provided by the router, with or not with SPI firewall features is a very good thing.

But, always have a software firewall as well:
