Hi

Is it not possible to create a button for attachments in form of Zip/Image file in this forum? As sometime it is very easy to explain the need based on image.

Thanks

Saif

No

Type or paste full url (
So you enter a URL to a file or files (space seperated URLS) and that can be a zip

If you don't have your own website, you can use the public dropbox folder or any service for sharing files.

Bye, Olaf.

Saif, I agree that it would be nice to have an easier way to show an image in a post. But the method that Olaf mentioned works well enough. All you need is a public site somewhere where you can upload the image. When I posted the images of your reports in thread184-1708080, I simply uploaded them to Dropbox, and then used its "share a link" feature to get the URL.

To add:

It's a major new thing to store files for tek-tips. Storage is cheap, that's not the problem. Still it makes storage need much higher than just storing post texts and storage needs would grow much faster.
The most problematic thing is security, not only of the site itself, but of it's users. This is somewhat spread since you can link to infected files or sites anyway. But without the ability to link to something even a forum would lose much of it's benefit.

You can even work without the attachment feature and embed images, there is the picture tool in the post toolbar. It also requires a URL to a picture. You can use any cloud service or picture specific ones like flickr, whatever, to upload your image and link to it and with picture you can even show it within the post.

Bye, Olaf.

Thanks for the explanations !!

I will try in my next post.

While I agree that a picture may be worth a 1000 words in trying to explain a problem, remember that finding out what led up to a problem is often much more important than how the problem finally appeared visually.

Good Luck,
