JRE / JWS Compatibility Question

I have two customers who need to use two seperate versions of JRE and JWS. One customer is requesting JRE 1.4.1_02 with JWS 1.2.0_02 and the other customer is requesting JRE 1.4.1_05 with JWS 1.4.2.

Can anyone tell me if the newer versions of JRE and JWS are backwards compatible with the older versions? I would like to minimize the integration effort. I will be installing these applications on a Windows XP Professional OS system.

I have read the release notes and it appears only new functionality has been provided, but I would like to verify.
