what i'm trying to do is take a scanned photo of a room, split the foreground elements from the background elements into separate files, and import them into flash so i can use them as a "set". my problem is when i cut the foreground out of the photo so that i have an irregularly shaped image with no canvas around it, just transparancy, and then copy it to a jpeg so i can import it, the jpeg ends up in flash in a box with cavas filled in around it. the selection tools in flash don't seem to work on it whether i use jpg, gif, tiff, or pict. i,ve seen bitmapped images used in flash before (e.g. celebrity's heads on flash bodies), what am i missing?

I'm having the same problem. I have no idea how to fix it, but I'd love it if somebody could tell me.

you need to save the cropped image as a PNG so that the transparency is retained.

Hope it helps

dD is right! You could probably also use a transparent gif!

;-)

thanks guys, it works! i had the gun cocked and loaded, but everything's cool now. what i ended up doing was turn it into a gif through photoshop/file/export, but now i have a more intimate knowledge of converrting files. merry seasons everybody!!!
