After opening an image from a digital camera and re-sizing it and saving it to a .jpg I cannot import it into Adobe Premiere. I get a message "Unable to open that file. File is either damaged, an unsupported type, locked or in use by another application." It doesn't always happen but in my last test it happened on 3 out of 8 images. Now the weird part. I can save as "newfilename.jpg" and they will import. The "save as" image is also 93K in size while the original is 79K in size. This happens on different computers and at different locations. It also only happens with Photoshop 5.5 and 6x. I think it happens also on both PCs and Macs. Has anyone had a similar problem or know a solution?

Correction.... When I have done save as and got the same image to import I used another photo editing software. It seems to work with any except Photoshop.

I've had exactly the same problem, but not with photos from my camera. Sometimes I find that images saved from the web won't open in Photoshop (I'm using version 7 but I can't remember if I was still on version 6 when it started happening).

I get the same message that you've mentioned when I try, yet I have no problems at all opening the same image in Fireworks! I don't do anything to the image when I've got it open in Fireworks apart from save it under a different name (eg I save image1.jpg to image2.jpg) . Going back to Photoshop I can then open the newly named file with no problems.

It's bizarre, isn't it! I hope someone can provide us with an explanation.

Since I last posted I found out a few things. It appears there is a problem with the newer Nikon Cameras writing a lot of header information and it stays in the image while using Photoshop. Premiere 6 won't import a jpg with all this new info in it. I tried raw .jpgs from a Nikon D1x and Premiere wouldn't take it either. I had to save it in a way that it cleaned out the JPG header info and then it would import. (i.e. save as a .psd) Seems as though I was in the wrong forum for this one. It's a Premiere/Nikon problem.

Well, not necessarily, because the problem I've been having relates to images saved from the net, not from a digital camera directly. Even if those images just happened to have been taken with a Nikon camera it still doesn't make sense why opening the image in Fireworks and immediately saving it with a "2" after the file name should make all the difference in Photoshop.
