Ok whenever you associate a file with a program it usually places there icon. Well I seem to have lost my associations even when i tell it to open with a program. Example if I tell it to open .jpg with internet explorer it looks like a wordpad file. Same with mozilla. This happened first with mozilla when I removed it did a registry mechanic scan and remove all keys so I could cleanly install it. The I had internet explorer halfway uinstalled so it wouldnt accidently get used. Well I decided to reinstall it completely all new componets when I found out I had to have it to use housecall lol. Anyways now im puzzled at how to get the icons associated back. This is annoying because it appears the registry keys are missing for it. For when I go to open it I get windows cannot find blank.exe . So help will be very much appreciated lol.

Try deleting or renaming WINNT\ShellIconCache and then restarting.

Or you could try the repair option in TWEAKUI.

Hope this heps

Looks like a neat program, tried it going to keep it however it did not work. Renamed the shell file to, didnt work lol. Appreciate the try though. Any other suggestions?

Open up windows explorer. Click on Tools, Folder Options, File Types. Find the JPG in the list and delete it all together. The next time you click on a JPG it should ask you what program you want to open it with. Click on your program and make it the default. This usually works for me.

Sorry didnt work. when i tried opening it it goes same message as usually get. Message is as follows:

Windows cannot find blank.exe.

THis program is needed for opening files of type 'Gif File".

Location of blank.exe:

Message says same thing for jpg just has jpg instead of gif.

I have never heard of blank.exe. What program are you trying to use to open these files? Are you able to open that program OK by clicking directly on that program? Maybe it needs reinstalled.

I always associate GIF & JPG to the windows explorer. It is just quick and easy that way. I use Adobe Photoshop when I want to edit them.

Ive tried reinstalling both, see i had removed mozilla and ran registry mechanic to remove old keys to try getting everything fresh. Reinstalled it didnt work same with internet explorer of what i could remove of it. Also I have associated the pics and everytime it puts a notepad looking file on them and when you try to open them gives the message above. Beats me what I did lol.

This is starting to sound more like a virus. I would try to run a couple different virus scans. Not all virus scans pick up everything. That is why I suggest a couple different ones. Also down load something like Adaware. This is free and gets rid of adware stuff. Microsoft also has a free virus scan utility. Windows AntiSpyware Beta. Check the Microsoft download site and see if there are any update patches you need. Sometimes an update will fix problems.

If all else fails, you can back up your data and reformat.

Nah its not a virus or spyware/addware, ran a couple virus scans and also spyware/addware scans. Its not that big of a problem and I have all my updates. For now i can just open up firefox and then open the pics. Its not a big enough problem to format the computer. I have 2 antivirus that remain on my computer sometimes 3. So its clean lol.
