Hi,
I need some help on how to join two subnets one is being a wireless router.
We have a network 192.168.2.x in a domain with dhcp server assigning ip to clients, now I want to install a wireless access point or router with a subnet 192.168.1.x with dhcp server enable to give out ip address for all laptop users. We currently have a 2003 windows server with two NIC cards.

Thanks

Routers are used to route traffic between one network (or subnet)to another. Since you have two nics in your server, sounds like you want to use it as your router? You need to install Routing and Remote Access (RRAS) to make this happen. RRAS is designed as a solution for your requirement. Much detail, best be it to download white papers on Microsoft's site...

Here is how I want to acomplish:

NIC1 -> 192.168.2.8 mask 255.255.255.0 GW 192.168.2.1

NIC2 -> 192.168.1.8 mask 255.255.255.0 GW what should be here

NIC2 will be connected to an Access point with an IP 192.168.1.10

Do you see what's wrong with this config?

Thanks

Further to what Jesse said, you can use your server as a router, but I would recommend having your existing DHCP server provide the addresses for the wireless subnet instead (if possible).

Question, what should be the gw for NIC2 card?

Thanks

In a multihomed environment only one NIC requires a default g/w that should be the one for your primary network. Also you should disable all MS Related networking services on the second NIC only allowing the TCP/IP protocol

Thanks for the info!

So I need to setup a superscope in dhcp server to serve both subnets?

Jim

No, just configure two scopes in DHCP, one for each subnet. Then make sure that IPHELPER or it's equivalent is configured on your router.
