Ok I'm a little green on these things but here is what I need to do. I have a 2950-48 that I want to connect another 2950-24 to. I have set the 2950-24 up and configured as a single Vlan on. I want to use port one as the Trunk port. When I connect the Xover cable I get green links on both switches however when I connect a workstation to the new 24 port I cant get past the locally assigned IP. I can ping that but nothing else. What am I missing???

make sure you have the same VLAN created and assigned to ports on your new 24-port switch.

Make sure that all devicea are on the same subnet. I am assuming that you assigned the management address to VLAN 1. Make sure that the trunking method used is the same on both switches. Can you ping switch 1 from switch 2 (either way)? Also, make sure that the int VLAN 1 is up. It would appear that the trunking is misconfigured if you can ping the local switch from the workstation and nothing else. If you can, submit a 'show run' on both.

Do a show int trunk . Is the trunk up and active on both sides . To be able to ping between switches your devices will have to be in the same vlan and also in the same subnet otherwise you need to introduce a layer 3 device to do your routing .
