Jobs take longer and longer w/ open file option

Im running BE on a Netware Server with the open file option. If I restart the server, the backup runs fine for 2 to 3 weeks. At which point it gradually slows to the point that the job is not finished in the morning when the business opens up. Reboot the server will clear things up for a couple weeks. It then begins to slow down again.

I believe it has to do with the Open File option but can't confirm it. Is anybody familiar with this symptom?

I noticed that if you were not careful when you set up the open file option, the lock option if checked can cause users not to access their information. When I set up the new version of Backup Exec, I didn't pay that much attention and users were not able to log in to Lotus Notes email because their files were showing in use.
