My backup jobs keep failing and I have no clue why. Anyone have any clues or what kind of information do I need to provide to get some help or direction.

Thanks
Ron

The log file for each failed job would be the best place to start.

I have looked through my logs and dont see any reason why it should have failed. But then again I am new to Backup Exec.

If somoe would like to look at the log file and maybe clue me in to what is going on I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for everyones advice and opinions
Ron

Cut and paste the log into here. I'm by no means an expert with BE, but I may be able to help.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this MKW I really appreciate it. I am determined to learn this software if it kills me :)

Ron

This is the cuase of the failure:

Unable to attach to \\VWP-DEV-04\C$.
A device-specific error occurred.

THis is in the fourth section from the top. Make sure BE has the proper rights to access this device, the device name may be wrong, it says below that, that the NT/2000 agent is not present, it this a Win 2000 Server? Are you performing remote backups?

Yea this is a win 2000 server. I am preforming remote backups on all these machine from my "housekeeping" server

Ron

- Do you have the remote agent for Win2K installed?
- Is \\VWP-DEV-04\C$ on the local "housekeeping" server, or is it a remote server?
- Is \\VWP-DEV-04\C$ the only Win2K server you are attempting to backup or are there others?
- Make sure you check the server in question to see if BE has the proper rights to attach to it (make sure the BE account is at least a member of the Backup Operators group.

Hi everyone,
Could someone help me with that problem plz
Our back up keeps failing and we don't know why...
Environnement : NT server
Soft. version : Backup Exec
Main Applications installed : Oracle, Baan IV (ERP software)

We wrote a script that shuts down Baan then Oracle before the back up is launched. Then around 20Go are backed up and it seems BExec try to close the job without success during 7 hours. Then we get a 'Failed' status. Finally the post-back up script that should restart Oracle then Baan services is executed.
The syntax of our scripts is the same than we used in former cases wihtout problem...

Here is the log file.
If someone is inspired...I would consider any answer, so don't hesitate !!
Thanks a lot.

Hi gang I very much so appreciate any advice or help anyone may have. PROBLEM: i'm struggling with an online restore. Were running Backup exec oracle agent 7.3, NT, Oracle 7. My offline backups and restores work fine, I am able to get an online backup to run, but our restores aren't working.

My ONLINE restore steps:
1. RESTORE ARCHIVE LOG FILES
2. RESTORE CONTROLFILES, AND TABLESPACES( except SYSTEM, its restored OFFLINE)

Hi All:

New member to the group so help me out. We are having Remote Agent for Windows NT/2000 not present errors. My backup guy tells me even though we get job fails messages data is really getting backed up and not to worry.

running W2k server on two machines.

Any ideas how to configure correctly so this error stops?

thanks,
tomah

If the remote agent is not running properly, the system state may not be getting fully protected. Check your job logs to see if it is being backed up properly.

Try checking the below -

1. Check that the remote agent service is running on the remote server. If not re-push the agent out from the Media (Backup Exec) server onto the remote server using the Backup Exec setup program.

2. Check Help/About of Backup Exec - the remote agent option must be listed here.

3. Try uninstalling the remote agent service (from the remote server) and re-pushing it out (from the Backup server) Reboot the remote server and try another backup.

4. If the above fails, what version of Backup Exec and build are you running. What other options do you have installed?

Cheers

Bobafet
