we are backing up 160GB of data to a Powervault 7000 robot with DLT4 tapes using Veritas Backup Exec v8.5. Until recently the weekly full backup jobs have been taking about 8 hours. The last two full backups have taken 26 hours, but on inspection of the logfile, it says (after 26 hours) that 160GB of data was processed in 8 hours, so it appears that the job just hangs after (or before?!) it finishes for 18 hours before going to completed status. Any ideas why?
The throughput on the 26 job is the same as we were getting with the 8 hour jobs. Daily incrementals appear to completing in the same time as they were before. The tapes are changed weekly on a 4 week cycle. I'm not aware anything has changed on the server.

Greetings,

I have had a problem where the Job status would not say complete until you ejected the tape. Or an Alert may be present and the job will not show a status of complete until the Alert associated with that job is cleared.

Take a look and see. I know before I set Veritas Backup exec. To auto reply to Messages such as.. "Is it ok to overwrite tape" or "Please Eject Media from Drive" The job would hang until I ejected the Tape.

Thanks,
TecGuy

think it must have been an alert, thanks for the tip
