Have been having problems with jobs running and then going on hold for no reason. I think the cause is when Arcserve does an auto-clean, it puts the job on hold, but never seems to switch it back to ready. Anyone else seen this? Refers to AS9 on Win2K using a TL891 library.

Arcserve will not start tape cleaning while the job is running or about to run.

apply the patch 9.01 from support site it handle many problems

make sure your qroup is avaliable no other job is running at the time of firing this job.

Does it works when you change it manually to ready?

It then starts again. Two jobs have to run at the same time though.

This is normal if two jobs run at the same time one of them will be put on hold till group get free to execute the second job.

Sorry - I didn;t explain fully. Two jobs are running to two drives in two seperate device groups.

you can run 2 jobs at the same time only if you configure virtual tape library if you don't do it one of the jobs will be deleyed.

Wehave previously run two jobs on 6.61 - it sees the drives as different devices.

The TL891 has its own auto clean functionality. I prefer to configure tape cleaning on the hardware if possible so ARCserve doesn't bother at all about cleaning (it just 'ignores' the cleaning slot). If the tape library wants to clean a drive it will wait until the drive is finished and then do a cleaning cycle. Check the TL89x manuals on how to set this up if you wish.

Are there any messages in the activity/job/tape logs ??

Nah, nothing that points to it. I do remember our old 6.61 jobs failing now and then becuase the drives needed cleaning - auto clean must have been switched off. I'll adjust the config and report back.
