I'm running BE9.1 and having a problem with it requesting overwriteable media.
The job is set to append to media, overwrite if none available. The media is set to allow append Infinite, and its overwrite protection period hasn't expired yet.
Why is it trying to overwrite when its set to Append?

thanks!

its probably because there is no other tape available to continue your backup. that tape could be the oldest one too.

Veritas knows also that they have a problem with that functionnality. Refer to support.veritas.com

because the tape is full and it can't append anymore to it - and seeing the overwrite protection hasn't expired yet it can't overwrite the tape - so it is asking for another one.

There isn't a problem with the funtionality you are talking about lachimere - it is more the understanding of how overwrite protection works and what tapes backup exec needs.

Actually there was plenty of room on the tape
The media turned out to be bad, which wasn't immediately obvious until I looked at the device view rather than the media view.

Thanks to both for your suggestions.
