I have 2 drives, 1 internal and the other a external autoloader.

Over the past few days I have been having a problem getting a backup done onto the autoloader. After many attempts at cleaning it seemed to start behaving itself. However after just one successful backup the jobs now seem to be stuck in a queue.

Under the activity monitor the backup is queued, I can tell the autoloader to load a tape and the job log will change to loading media and then change back to queued.

The device is not paused or showing as offline and the only entries in the NT event log are from me cancelling the job manually.

The job log shows the fist few line stating the job name etc and then nothing, after I cancel the job there is an extra line saying mount failed.

Backup Exec 8.6

Any ideas

Jonathan

Have you changed anything? Especially brand of tape? I had a problem with my autoloader after I bought a new cleaning tape. I had been using FUJIFILM but my new tape was TDK. After talking to the tape library vendor, I found they recommend FUJIFILM only. Now I'm ordering a new FUJIFILM cleaning tape and hoping that will solve the issue.

Nothing added recently.

I've done a bit more digging and I have found that although the backup job is queued it will let me run an inventory, catalogue a tape lock and unlock the units display panel etc

It is only the backup which is getting queued.

Mighty strange

I'm about to break the emergency glass and remove the big hammer and re-enter negotiations with the autoloader.

I am having the same siutation. i have a backup job and then all of a sudden it queued on every backup job that I run.

Have you all made sure that your 'Removable Storage' service is set to disabled? This is a common issue with this service, even if you have had no problems in the past.

Also, have you recently changed any SCSI drivers?

How long have you let the job stayed queued for? If you were to say leave it queued for an hour or so? Does the drive eventually go offline?

Removable Storage service is set to disable. Interesting, it working for like only a day and then after that it has been either on hold or queue. This was the same SCSI card that were use. the queue stay forever. It stay on for the whole day. Nope it doesn't go offline.
Do I need to update any firmware on the autoloader? Is there any good books or link to understand better how to administer backup autoloader with Vertias Exec 8.6?

Thank You

Select the Devices tab and make sure that the tape drive isn't paused.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

I have check that the tape drive is not paused. It's queue for ever. i have check the driver for the autoloader and it's update to veritas driver.

Urgh, I'm getting this same problem now myself and I'm wondering if anyone knows or remembers what their solution was.

I've checked the Veritas site and can't find any help there.

I'm using B.E v9.1. I have two changers attached, each with two drives. One of the changers is working fine. The other changer, which I have two jobs that run on it, both the jobs will only queue. They say loading for one second and then flick to queued.

Nothing had changed. I can inventory successfully and do other tasks successfully but it's running the actual jobs that queues.

The backup server has been rebooted and all the B.E services are running. I've also tried running just a small local backup but get the same problem.

The drives are not paused and the loader does not have an error.

Help please!!

On further investigation - it appears that I may have a hardware issue with the changer. The changer I use has a robotic arm that goes through and scans the slots for tapes/barcodes and moves media when required. It appears that the robotic arm has got it's self in a loop of continually scanning the tapes. Therefore it's not getting a chance to grab the tape and load it into the drive.

I'm going to get someone to look at the hardware now. The scanning normally only occurs when the door to the changer closes so I suspect that the trigger for this is broken.
