Hi guys,

Ok.. I'm trying to upgrade the BIOS in a friends Jetway V333Da mobo from v03 to v06 and he's lost the chipset driver CD with the Magic Bios flash utility on.

OS he's using is WinXP Home

I've been on the Jetway site and got the Awdflash (flash util) and the correct BIOS .BIN file and made a bootable floppy and I've tried to boot from the floppy and it won't recognise.

I've also booted up in Safe Mode with Command Prompt and entered the following txt that the manual suggests.:

awdflash A:\v333daa6.bin /SN/PY/CC/R

but doesnt seem to like it?

Has anyone got the Magic BIOS utility on disk they can send me or any tips at all.

Cheers,

DaZ K

I know that the bios "tool" flash utility, is built into the bios on some of the Jetway range, some of the upgrade flashes themselves have the upgrade added onto them so offer this easier option for future upgrades.
Have you looked on the bios screen for the flash utility?
normally it is situated at the bottom of the first screen and you have to press one of the F keys to take you into the flash utility.
All you need then is just the flash file on a floppy and to follow the onscreen commands.
Just check if there is bios protection (write to bios protection) check box that needs turning off (again somewhere in the bios)

Thanks mate,

I know there is a lot of 'guff' at the bottomn on the main BIOS screen on boot up but I dont recall seeing any F keys to hit to get into the flash util. I can have another look or try tapping a few keys on boot up to try that.

Oh yeah, I've tried running the awdflash util via the command prompt thru Windows but it seems that the util doesnt like Win 2000/NT or XP or so it states.

So its either a case of find ing the built in flash util( if this board has one) or see if someone has a spare copy of the driver disk with Magic BIOS floating around.

I'm just looking thru the mobo manual now and it only tells you how to flash the BIOS with Magic BIOS or via a bootable floppy.?

Thanks for your comments mate.)

Any more ideas - I'd be pleased to hear 'em.

You shouldn't be attempting to flash the bios in Windows, only in DOS
If you download the flash utility, flash file and step by step readme file which you ought to print out, make a bootable floppy, set you first boot device to floppy drive and follow the step by step guide to flash, alternately take the tower to your local custom build shop and have them flash it for you, I know we charge £8UK, around $12US
Usually undertaken at your own risk.

Ok Martin,

Cheers for that but I've already attempted exactly what you said regarding the bootable floppy.

I know I was taking a risk trying it via the command prompt but the actual Magic BIOS util works via Windows so I took a chance.

Can't understand why the floppy doesnt boot. Possibly I havent made it bootable, can u give me any tips regarding doing anything in particular to making the floppy bootable.

Cheers,

awdflash.exe is usually used for flashing a new BIOS - the flashing utility for reflashing an award bios is usually aflash.exe. The Jetway site does list awdflash.exe but doesn't make it clear whether it uses that utility for initial loading or reflashing.

has a lot of bios information and is worth looking over if you need to know more. There are several flashing utilities available.

I have the jetway motherboard disc whith magic bios..if you want i´ll send it to you....regards

Hi Xamix,

Yeah I'm still after the disk mate. My other mate has an earlier Jetway disk with MagicBIOS on it, but it turns out that its at aimed Win98/ME.??? Not compatible with WinXP.

Drop me a line at darren.k2@ukonline.co.uk and well make some arrangements.

Cheers,

I too have a Jetway V333DA M/B with a user manual to aid in BIOS flashing. This seams useless as I can't seem to get it to work.
If I put it all together, the thing just beeps and beeps.

I bought the board cheap and can't get it to work.
I am using :
AMD 1.2g Duron CPU
350W PSU
512 DDR 333MHz (have tried other 333Ram)
Floppy Drive
CDRW 52x32x52x LG
10 Gig Maxtor HD (have tried two)
32MBTNT AGP

All of the items above work in my other M/B fine.
Can you tell me if I need to have the ratio set to 12x or 10x
And how do install a new bios if nothing appears on the screen?
CAN ANYONE HELP?
Thanks for any response.

Was the motherboard second hand?
If so did it have an Athlon fitted previously? because the front side bus jumpers are probably still set to 133 or 166
you need 100 for a Duron 1200(200fsb when doubled DDR)
These jumpers are situated just above the AGP slot on the mainboard.
Also clear and reset bios.
Recheck that you only have brass standoff posts where they are needed (it is common to accidently leave an extra one in there shorting out the board)
Also double check the CPU heatsink/fan unit is fitted the correct way around (recess in the base of the heatsink must be mounted over the raised cam box of the CPU socket)
If for some reason you have fitted the heatsink wrongly then it is likely the CPU is damaged (typically eveything spinning up, lights on but no post although you wouldn't normally hear any beeps if this was the case)
