Hi all,

I'm hoping you can help me on a problem that's rather stumping me. I'm trying to print from a Windows XP system to a LaserJet 2200D that has a JetDirect 600n EIO server plugged into it. The computer and printer are both serviced by a Linksys router.

The problem is, basically, I cannot print with this configuration. I have no problems communicating with the JetDirect card - it comes up on HP WebAdmin as well as its own Web-based monitor, I can ping it, I can telnet to it. I also know the printer itself works, since I can print to it via USB. But if I try to print via the network, the job just stays in the queue for a minute or so, then reports the error "This document failed to print." This is even after running the HP Install Network Printer Wizard.

What's going on? I've always found JetDirects to be very straightforward, just plug it in and go. I'd love some input...

Thanks!

I am have the same problem printing over a VPN. However I can print from my Laptop. The setting on the laptop and the desktop appear identical. Both computers are using XP pro Service pack 2.

I have since solved the problem. The problem is in the MTU settings of the NIC. If the MTU setting of the NIC is reduced to 1400 the printer works fine .
I am using a Netgear router with an MTU setting of 1492.
The NIC MTU can be changed by downloading a program called DRTCIP from it can also be changed by editing the registry and adding a key if not already there.
These parameters for TCP/IP are specific to individual network adapter cards. These appear under this Registry path, where "adapter ID" refers to the Services subkey for the specific adapter card:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\
Interfaces\[Adapter ID]

MTU: Set it to equal the required MTU size in decimal (default 1500)

Data Type: DWORD
Add this value and set to 1400.
Hope this helps you
