Hello,
I know this is really NEWB question but here it goes.

Why use JET DIRECT VS creating a new port on my print server. I am running a windows 2003 PRinter server which is smarter?

With a JetDirect card, you can place the printer anywhere there's a network drop -- it doesn't need to be connected to a PC.

Was that the question? I thought the question was JetDirect vs. IP printing.

The main reason to use the JetDirect protocol and software is it allows you more functionality for the HP printers; like seeing paper status, ink/toner/consumables status, etc. whereas printing to an IP address using LPR will just print it. Period.

Just my 2¢
